Now more than ever we should be paying attention to the things we put in our bodies. There are differences in the quality and legitimacy of the many products on the shelf today. With so many fly-by-night bottles littering the bars and liquor stores you have to be careful who you trust to point you in the right direction.
As I was scrolling through my Twitter feed today I noticed it was polluted as well. Full of stuff that I don't need to ingest. We happen to drink with our eyes and ears too. It reminds me of that never needed shot of cheap rye whiskey that accompanies most industry checks at the end of a night of drinking. You don't need it, and if you accept it from anyone that is pouring you will become quickly inebriated and easily convinced into taking more and more. It is actually pretty easy to turn down a shot: "No thanks, I'm good." Then go home and pour yourself a nightcap of something you trust.
Fake News. Fake Booze. It can be hard to sort out the small bits of honesty from the many lies. The rare nuggets of gold from the overwhelming plethora of junk and the even more deceptive fool's gold. It sparkles and shines. It looks like the real thing but something seems slightly off. Upon closer inspection, you realize you've got a handful of junk. I see this all the time in a bar atmosphere. If one person is going to knock back a pour of crappy booze he might as well get a round of shots for his buddies. Now the entire group has a bad taste in their mouth and the cycle continues until someone can't contain the poorly distilled liquid and it comes gushing back out.
We live in a weird time but everyone has always lived in a weird time. It feels as if every person has a megaphone and they are all screaming their perceived correct answer to the same question everyone is being asked. Maybe answering your own personal questions instead of the ones being asked of you would help? Filtering out the crap is the only way to move forward.
You're sincere, but in order not to upset your views you avoid talking with people who think differently. You pick your thoughts from conversations with people like yourself, from books written by people like yourself. In physics, they call it resonance. You start out with modest opinions, but they match and build each other up to a scale.
